Cynthia S. Chiu, MD

Assistant Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology
 


Research Summary

Dr. Chiu now returns to UCSF, where she earned her medical degree. She completed her internship at Stanford University, followed by her residency at Harvard University, at the prestigious Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary. At the completion of her residency, she was recruited to the faculty at Weill Cornell in Manhattan, New York, to focus on resident education. In 2004 and 2006 her innovative teaching techniques earned her awards of excellence in teaching by the Cornell residency program.

Dr. Chiu’s clinical interests include advances in small-incision, sutureless cataract surgery, ocular and orbital inflammation, and eye pathology. Her research interests include giant cell arteritis, ocular ischemia, and optimizing outcomes after cataract surgery. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She is a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology.
