Course 2003 - New
Therapies
The 2003 December Course, an annual symposium for practicing ophthalmologists,
featured internationally-renowned investigators. The meeting was dedicated
to pioneering ophthalmic plastic surgeon, Professor Crowell Beard, MD, who
died in 2003. In the keynote Proctor Lecture, Richard L. Anderson, MD, Medical
Director of the Center for Facial Appearance in Salt Lake City, Utah, reported
on advances in surgery for ptosis (drooping eyelid), and gave a tribute to
Dr. Beard, who was recognized internationally for his work in the field. Clinical Professor, David Chang, MD, discussed the design and implementation
of an implantable miniature telescope that may enhance vision for patients
with macular degeneration.
"This was a cutting-edge meeting," says
Dr. Daniel Schwartz, who chaired the program with Drs. Robert Stamper
and Stephen McLeod.
